Brain stem stroke syndrome is a disease of brain in this disease a stroke is found in brain stem. Stroke is a medically term means blood supply to the brain is affected. Stroke can be due to leakage of blood, blockage and lake of blood flow. Because of stroke the brain is unable to work. If patient not be treated within few hours of stroke, then there are chances to patient dying or entering into coma.

Main cause of this stroke is clotting of blood found in brain, bleeding in the brain because of any internal injury, sudden death of brain cells, and interruption of blood supply in the brain. In this disease's cell dies within a minute whenever the blood supply is interrupted. In some cases the effect of stroke are irreversible.

The symptoms of brain stem stroke are depending on the location of the brain stroke. If stroke is present in the right side of the cerebrum, then patient's left side is paralyzed. When the stroke is occurred in the left side of cerebrum then patient's right side is paralyzed. In this condition patient unable to eat, walk, talk and self care task. Stroke can diagnose through several techniques: CT scan, neurological examination, Doppler ultrasound, MRI scan, and arteriography. Physical examination can also play an important role in diagnose the stroke.

The most common symptoms include difficulty in speech, lack of body coordination, difficulty in general body movement, temporary or permanent paralysis on the left or right side of the brain which cause paralysis on the right and left side respectively, uncontrolled movement of the eyes and breathing difficulties that can trigger a coma.

The treatment of ischemic stroke starts with a Tissue Plasminogen Activator which is injected into the vessels that lead to the brain and dissolve the clots so as to allow free movement of blood. Incase treatment has been delayed by over four hours the intra arterial treatment is used, in this treatment a catheter is inserted in the blood vessels in the leg that directly leads to the brain and the retriever sucks up the blood clot from the brain freeing the blood vessels that transport blood to the brain.

Treatment of hemorrhagic stroke is meant to stop internal brain bleeding and this can be achieved by anti hypertensive which reduces the swelling that is caused by the bleeding, this treatment is followed by surgery where the blood vessels that cause the bleeding are removed.

Once the stroke has been medically treated physical therapy is used to nurse back the patient and enables the patient to regain full use of his body. Families of recovering patients are strongly urged to work hand in hand with the therapist and to instill a positive attitude into the patients for a quick recovery. As the patient's health progresses, they are required to go for frequent medical checkups until full recovery.
